About Us

Since July 2000, LEARN to LIVE Together, Honors Leadership Academy for Young Women has been offered as a week-long unique, residential program exclusively for young women (7th - 12th). Participants engage in a well rounded program with each day broken up into three types of activities:

  1. Academic courses offered on a university campus
  2. Exploration of social issues through peer group discussions led by community professional/s
  3. Immersion in an ethnic culture

The aim of LEARN to LIVE Together, Honors Leadership Academy for Young Women is to encourage the participants to explore their environment and to lead them toward self-growth and awareness of the diverse society that surrounds them.

Participants attend classes on the campus of a university in topics such as science, engineering, technology, language, world religions. Interpersonal skills such as public speaking, debate, role-playing, diversity, self-understanding may be offered as experiences as these skills are critical to the leadership process.

Program Schedule

LEARN to LIVE, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization will offer two programs; one for the Middle School and another for High School young women. The week-long program will be held from Sunday, July 6th, 2008 to Friday, July 11th, 2008.

Participants take part in appropriate morning academic sessions on the campus. Participants spend the afternoons engaged in interactive, reflective and creative activities. Evenings are set aside for special presentations by successful adults representing a variety of careers and professions. These presentations could focus on discussing issues, situations of interest and value to young women. Participants are encouraged to engage in some form of physical activity on a daily basis.

A concluding banquet is planned on Friday night where all the participants will be recognized. Parents will be invited to this final event.

Academy Location

The University of West Georgia is located in Carrollton, Georgia -- about 50 miles west of Atlanta. Participants live in a University dorm, with a roommate, which provides a great learning experience in itself for many young women. Learning to live with another young woman has proven quite enlightening.

Administration

Madhavi Sethna, Creator and Director of the LEARN to LIVE Together, Honors Leadership Academy for Young Women, is an active member of the Carrollton community. She is a university faculty member teaching senior and junior level courses in Management, Information Technology for some of the institutions of the University system of Georgia.

With an undergraduate degree in accounting and three graduate degrees in Management, Special Education, and Management Information Systems, she has molded herself as an Educator par Excellence and has received several university and national awards for her teaching excellence. She is currently a graduate student in the Ed. D. Program at the University of West Georgia. The Program is specifically focused on educational Leadership and School Improvement. She and her husband have received a national award for demonstrating strong family and community values.

With support and commitment from the excellent faculty of the community educational institutions, the organization is able to offer innovative, exciting programs to help ensure our society's future. The organization is committed to education and training young women for strengthening our collective tomorrows!
